Get Some Fresh Air

The Kentucky countryside is beautiful all year-round, beckoning outdoor adventurers of all kinds. One of the best places in the Bardstown area to get a breath of fresh air and soak in some spectacular scenery is Bernheim Forest and Arboretum, located in nearby Clermont. Here, you’ll find 16,000 acres of perfectly preserved forestland, with trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, gardens and more. If you feel like getting above it all, take a stroll on the Canopy Tree Walk, which takes you 75 feet up for some seriously panoramic views. It’s especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves start to turn.

One of the Bluegrass State’s most impressive historic gems, My Old Kentucky Home is a lovingly restored 19th century mansion set upon 1,300 acres of splendidly manicured beauty. Named for Stephen Foster’s classic song “My Old Kentucky Home,” the attraction is now open to the public for tours, events and immersive activities (don’t miss the Mint Julep Masterclass, where you’ll learn how to make this classic Kentucky cocktail). With costumed guides bringing the story of the Rowan family to life, a golf course and regular musical performances in a grand amphitheater, My Old Kentucky Home is a Bardstown must-visit.
