Kenny Rapier Golf Course at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Enjoy your day at this par 71, 18-hole golf course. It provides 6,385 yards of golf from the longest tees with a course rating of 70.4 and a slope rating of 128. The golf course features bent grass greens and bermuda grass fairways and tees nestled among the rolling woodlands in the park. A fully-equipped pro shop caters to the golfer's every need with a snack bar, rental clubs, pull carts and riding carts. The course is named for Bardstown native and former Commissioner of Parks, Kenny Rapier. Bardstown Boaters The Bardstown Boaters are a whitewater paddling and water conservation group from Bardstown, KY. Horizon Hoppers Adventure Services Open year round by appointment. Specializing in family fun! Canoe and kayak trips and rentals available. Youth Soccer Nelson County Youth Soccer League practices and plays games at the Dean Watts Park located on Spencer Mattingly Lane. Registration for the fall soccer season begins the last week in June and spring registration begins the last week in January. The cost is $45 for U-8 to U-19 and $35 for U-6 when registering by early bird deadline. Youth Football The Bardstown-Nelson County Little League Football Association will take registration for the fall season in June and July for Flag, Peewee, Junior, and Senior Tackle. The season is scheduled to begin in September with practices beginning in August. All practices and games are held at Dean Watts Park on Spencer Mattingly Lane. Fees are $40 per player, $100 max per family. Youth Baseball The Bardstown-Nelson County Little League Baseball Association accepts registration for baseball and softball in January & February, deadline March 1st. The current fees are: $35 per child for 5 & 6 year olds playing T-ball, $50 per child through age 12, $115 max for children living in the same household. There will be a $10 late charge for anyone registering after the deadline. Tryouts will be announced. Beginning the 2007 season, games and practices will be held at Dean Watts Park at the new baseball complex. Youth Basketball The Bardstown-Nelson County Recreation Dept. organizes three basketball leagues. Fifth Quarter Basketball is for children ages K-3rd with boys and girls divisions. Sign-ups begin in September and the fee is $30. Games begin in November for girls' teams and January for boys' teams. Junior League Basketball is for 7th and 8th graders that do not play for a school team. This league will take sign-ups in September through November 9th with practices and games beginning in December and the fee is $45 that includes jersey that the player may keep. Senior League Basketball is for high school students, grades 9-12 who are not on a school team roster. Team sign-ups are in January and February and player fee is $40. Recreation Facilities
Bardstown Community Park Approximately 1 acre, located at the end of East Halstead Ave. This park has a pavilion, sand volleyball court, basketball goal, horseshoe pits, playground equipment, picnic tables, grills and walking/biking trails. It is available for public use daily from dawn till dusk. Calling the Bardstown-Nelson County Recreation Department at 1-502-348-9281 may reserve the pavilion.
Jones Avenue Park & Don Harned Little League Field Approximately 5 acres, located at the corner of West Broadway and Jones Avenue near the city pool. Two lighted tennis courts and a sand volleyball court are available until 11:00 p.m. Enjoy lunch while watching your children play on the up-to-date playground equipment. Picnic area and pavilion with tables, benches & grills. Also includes one large lighted baseball/softball field with storage/scorer's building, concession stand/restroom, three batting cages, additional playground equipment and a gravel-walking track.
Woodson/Rogers Park Approximately .25 acre, located on South 4th Street. Two basketball goals and up-to-date playground equipment geared for children under 12 years of age are available from dawn till dusk.
Sportsman Club Park Approximately 7.35 acres, located 1/2 mile south of Bardstown on highway 49. Enjoy a game on the baseball/softball field.
Dean Watts Park Approximately 70 acres, located off of Spencer Mattingly Lane about three miles from town. This sports complex includes 12 youth soccer fields, 4 youth football fields, 6 baseball & softball fields, playground equipment at the soccer and football fields, a paved walking trail that is approximately 2 miles, concession stands, pavilions, restrooms and picnic tables.
GYM Rental The Recreation Department gym is available for rental on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The cost is $30.00 per hour.
Open GYM The Recreation Department gym is open to the public Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. FREE OF CHARGE. Walkers are welcome.
Tennis Courts Six lighted tennis courts available for public use. Two courts are located at the Jones Avenue Park and four courts are located on East Broadway.
City Pool Activities The Bardstown/Nelson County Parks & Recreation Department maintains one municipal Olympic size pool facility that includes diving pool, wading pool, and bathhouse/restrooms. The pool opens the first weekend in June and remains open daily through mid-August. Summer activities include swim lessons, swim team, lap swim, pool rental, and waterobics classes. Registrations for the summer programs begin in May.
